New Ordinance Related to Watering and Sprinkling of Outdoor Vegetation

Effective July 11, 2007, the City of Thorp has a new ordinance in effect that prohibits the sprinkling of lawns and other outdoor vegetation between the hours of 10:00am and 6:00pm.  Permits to water newly seeded or sod lawns between 10:00am and 6:00pm can be obtained, conditions permitting, for a 2 week period.  Watering by hand and children's water toys are allowed at all times.  Complete watering bans are still possible in extremely dry conditions.

The City of Thorp has recently been recognized as a Tree City USA for the 15th consecutive year by the National Arbor Day Foundation and the Wisconsin DNR.

City of Thorp Brush, Leaf & Christmas Tree Collection Information

Collection of curb-side brush will be the first Tuesday of each month from April through December.  Brush piles should be of manageable size, neatly stacked, and cut to lengths of approximately 4 feet.

Collection of natural Christmas trees deposited at curb-side that have had all decorations removed will occur on 2 days each January.  Anticipated dates in 2008 include Wednesday January 2 and Tuesday January 8.

Curb-side collection of leaves will occur during and approximately 2-week period each fall.  Dates depend upon peak leaf shed.  Leaves should be raked to and left on the curb--not raked into the street or gutter.  Additional leaves collected after pick-up has ceased can be dropped off at the city composting drop-off site across from City Hall.
