OPENING FOR THE SEASON ON FRIDAY DECEMBER 18, 2009!
The Warming House will be open only sporadically until after the first of the year. However, the lights will be on a timer and the public is welcome to skate, even when the warming house is closed.
Back this Season! Check out the expanded hockey boards on the western end of the rink -- creating a fully enclosed hockey playing surface! Please follow all posted rules.
Thorp has the only public ice skating rink with a staffed warming house between Wausau and Chippewa Falls. Skate or play hockey under our lights and to the music piped over the loudspeakers. You'll always find a warm fire and the attendant, Gibby, is more than happy to sharpen your skates, or help you tie them. If you ask him nicely, he may even lend you a hockey puck or cook your potatoes for you while you skate. If you're cold or tired, relax inside where there's a pop machine, and occasional card game, and usually an episode of "Deal or No Deal" on Gibby's old television. He may pretend to grumble, but there's no place he'd rather be. Gibby's been doing this for nearly 20 years.
The City of Thorp is not responsible for accidents that may occur on the ice. Participants may be asked to leave the premises for failure to follow rink rules.
